Get It Wrong 03:58
Romeo and Juliet tried their very best But when he found out that his lady was laid to rest He ran to the chapel just to see for himself Took that poison off the shelf Drank down every last drop but at the last He got it wrong (he gets it wrong) He got it wrong (he gets it wrong) He got it wrong (he gets it wrong) He got it wrong (he gets it wrong) You can try to change your song but you end up right where you belong 'Cause it feels so right to get it wrong (he gets it wrong) Christopher Columbus sailed the Western Sea He was looking for spices and a cup of good breakfast tea First beach he found he put a flag in the ground Took a few seconds, had a look around Said, "Boys, this is India! it must be." But he got it wrong.... There was E.J. Smith the Unsinkable Ship's captain What was going through his mind the night the unthinkable happened? Was it the icebergs that were invisible, Or the arrogance of feeling invincible, That sent him down to sleep in his underwater cabin? 'Cause he got it wrong... I've been wrong on Galiano, in Whitehorse and Japan I've been wrong more places than most people ever been I don't say prayers at night asking for my luck to change If things starting going right, it would be a bit too strange 'Cause I get it wrong... The best part of this song is this last verse The punchline is so great, it makes the other songs look worse it goes something like...no, it was more like...shit... Oh, no...that's not it... It sure sounded great when we rehearsed! But we got it wrong....

When I was growing up, I had a habit that was strange Always liked to put myself slightly out of range You never botch the play, if you never get the ball I'd sit and watch my friends take the glories and the falls Building castles in the sand The outfield was my home and native land I'd sing it from the edges of the fields and rinks and courts, singing I'm a kid who sucks at sports I'm a kid who sucks at sports What's the point of t-ball anyway? It's just baseball with the most interesting part taken away So until things get more cool, I guess I'll just bide my time I'll brush up on the rules while I sit on my behind Building castles in the sand The outfield is my home and native land I'll sing it from the edges of the fields and rinks and courts, singing I'm a kid who sucks at sports I'm a kid who sucks at sports Play Ball! Here comes the pass! Shucks, I missed it... Coach says, "You made the 'D' team, son." I didn't know that one existed... Here comes the shot! But I never stopped it... I made the catch!! Yeah, but then I dropped it... So if you never win gold medals, never get the MVP, Never make a diving catch, or even scuff your knees You might be a dreamer and a schemer just like me Your trophy is this song, and the architecture of your Castles in the sand If the outfield is your home and native land Sing it from the edges of the fields and rinks and courts, singing I'm a kid who sucks at sports I'm a kid who sucks at sports, sing it loud I'm a kid who sucks at sports, because I'm proud of it i'm a kid who sucks at sports

There's an old cabin at the end of the road Nobody's lived there for years There was an old man that used to, But it seems that he's switched careers Now he's pushing up roses at the graveyard Next to the granny of Mikey Mcguire So I lit the fire I lit the fire Everybody's living in the city Nobody lives around here The place was wet as a dog, the only thing in my pocket Was a letter from my baby last year, It said, "Johnny be good while I'm gone, I'll be true you've got nothing to fear" So I lit the fire I lit the fire I didn't think that I could light it But decided not to fight it or go crazy with "I think I can"s I went flick, flick flick with my $1.10 Bic 'Til a little flame started to dance You can Google me, baby, but I won't be at that old address anymore 'Cause I lit the fire I lit the fire

Magnolia 04:21
We watched our friends grow up together Stepping past the snares and pits and mines Some of us fell for worse, some fell for better And somehow you stayed wild all this time Magnolia, there's something that I never told you Maybe tonight I'll be bold enough to say Magnolia, no one ever could control you Maggie, you're so beautiful that way I remember the time you used my roof-rack like two handles Suspended high above Commercial Drive Your hair flickered in the wind just like a candle And I had never felt so much alive Magnolia... They say that parallel lines eventually meet in some corner of the universe But I'd be happy for a phone call, Maggie Whichever one comes first Magnolia... Now I'm rolling home down highway 97 Pinned between my memories and the view Wild flowers line the roadside, clear and present Every one reminding me of you Magnolia...

Bittersweet 04:12
We used to stay up late nights, drinking wine At the Gates of Harmonious Interest I used to think someone would come along, hear one of your songs And name you the winner, name you the winner Name you the winner Of one of those stupid contests But now I'm on the road, and you're on the road We're playing badminton behind the main stage I'm going to have another baby and your boyfriend left And both of us look better with age I'm too sad to celebrate it but too happy to have a regret As we listen to the indie band fumble through their headlining set I just think, how bittersweet can it get? I got 1,297 emails, yeah i'm feeling pretty special today it says here that I could be the winner, could be the winner Could be the winner If I send my money in right away Ever since I was a boy all I've wanted to do Is make a living singing songs It's nice work if you can get it, all you gotta do is sit there On the internet all day long I'm too sad to celebrate it but too happy to have a regret Sometimes the only break from the boredom is doing something that I dread I just think, how bittersweet can it get? And they say, "Time heals all things" But I think Time is like a lung surgeon Sneaking outside to smoke another cigarette And I think, how bittersweet can it get? Then one day I hear your song on the radio And turn your voice up loud I say to everybody that I know the singer, I know the singer I know the singer But nobody seems that proud And I'm too sad to celebrate it but too happy to have a regret There's a lesson in here somewhere but I don't want to find it yet I just think, how bittersweet can it get?

Over Time 03:04
Ever since the days of the ancient kings When a heart gets struck by love, deep inside Try to tie it down with a diamond ring But beware the heart that's willing to be tied There's not enough diamonds in this world To tie a heart like mine You just gotta show me You gotta show me over time Two parts pickle juice and four parts gin Chase it down with lemon, salt and Dexedrine Got seagulls flashing in the morning light Got a rough hotel room for the night There isn't one moment in this world Where sweetness will arrive You just gotta take it In little pieces over time I could write a story, I could write a book About the way you move and the way you look Every day, every hour I'm writing it On the pages of the memories of our kids There's not enough paper in this world To write it out in lines I'm just gonna show you I'm gonna show you over time So hang on just a moment There's space for one more rhyme 'Cause I'm gonna love you I'm gonna love you over time

I'm looking, always looking I'm listening hard for the cue Straining the veins in my eyes, looking for a sign Somewhere in view Wherever you go I will follow I'm hanging on your every word Waiting for a syllable so divine It might make up for all the shit I've heard In the evening of my effort There's two little stars shining low The eyes of my daughter looking up at me To try to understand where to go Whoever you are, and whatever you do Somebody's looking to you Whoever you are, and whatever you do Somebody's looking to you Somebody's looking to you I used to look up at my father The way a nation looks to it's king Mesmerized by the way his eyes would look out To some mysterious thing Black bear looks to the honey The flower's looking out to the bee Never in a million years, did I think my dad Was looking out at me So when Moses led his people out of Egypt He was just a regular dude Because he had a stutter, he was looking to his brother To lead him out of Egypt, too Whoever you are... So now I'm looking, always looking I'm listening hard for the cue Straining the veins in my heart Looking to learn the secret art from you When I'm drifting out on the ocean I look for those two little stars Remember to keep your little light on, baby 'Cause someone's looking out for yours Whoever you are...
