Watching Kurosawa

Closed-circuit camera caught me grinning
front door bell is ringing
I'm alone again (he's alone again)
just after midnight, 16th and Main
I put my bike in the back closet
check for the deposit
I'm on the graveyard shift (he's on the graveyard shift)
Red Hot Video, 16th and Main
I'm working hard, hardly working
my boss here is a jerk
Yeah but I don't mind (he don't mind)
'cause I got time to draw and write
for a couple hours in the middle of the night
yeah but you know what I love the best
swap out that security VHS
put in Rashomon instead
and lean back at the desk
I'll be watching Kurosawa
'til early tomorrow, on the night shift (he's on the night shift)
Red Hot Video, 16th and Main
sometimes your friends don't like the same films
you like to watch, they say, "Hey Jack,
when are we gonna turn this film off?"
'cause there's hard parts in art that speak to the dark parts in your heart, so sometimes it's better to be alone
if you're running for the rat race, or trying to go to school
you wanna make wise choices, not to be a fool, just remember:
even if you love your job, it's not gonna love you back again
so take time out to watch some good films if you can
I watched Fellini, Buñuel, John Waters, Almodovar
Lars Von Trier, Buster Keaton, a couple by Godard
everything by Jim Jarmusch, Herzog, all of Kinski's crazy scenes
but my favourites were Red Beard, Ikiru, and Dreams
I was watching Kurosawa
'til early tomorrow, on the night shift (he's on the night shift)
Red Hot Video, 16th and Main
16th and Main

Coming Back to Life
02:49
|
|||
Icy puddles, cracked and grey
like my sorrows of yesterday
dirty snow on the side of the road
but where I'm walking it's clear and good
when it's springtime in the sunshine
but it's still winter in the shade
I can feel myself coming back to life again
Golden willows reaching down
to brush their fingers along the ground
that's the way that I'm stretching now
been so long but I still remember how
it's springtime in the sunshine
but it's still winter in the shade
and I can feel myself coming back to life again
Birds are singing on the line
I can't tell if they're laughing or they're crying
The sun's a drifter, he's bound to leave
but for now he's wearing his heart on his sleeve
when it's springtime in the sunshine
but it's still winter in the shade
and I still feel the frost of old mistakes that I have made
I can step into the light
and people, I tell you it feels great
'cause I can feel myself coming back to life again
I can feel myself coming back to life again
I can feel myself coming back to life again
